Financial Challenges/Recovery Workshops

Money Management for Low-Income Earners

Many people with limited employment skills or a lack of work experience have jobs but exist on the margins of employment. Consequently they are particularly vulnerable to making poor choices and becoming victims of scams.

This workshop helps workers of modest income achieve long-term stability in their work by providing:

  • Basic money management skills
  • Options for earning extra income
  • Employment ABCs
  • Benefits of participating in the banking system

Transitional Housing

Homelessness can affect anyone at any stage of life. Many people are just a few paychecks away from homelessness. Circumstances such as job loss, unexpected medical expense, natural disaster (fire, flood, etc.) can leave people homeless.

This workshop teaches:

  • Basic money management skills
  • Options for earning extra income
  • Calculation of rental housing costs
  • Tips for negotiating with a landlord

Financial recovery is the foremost objective for individuals who have experienced financial exploitation. FEFL workshops address these challenging situations:

Identity Theft/Fraud

In today’s world where 15 million people become a victim of identity theft/fraud annually, it’s more important than ever for consumers to know how to protect themselves. This workshop will cover what they should do immediately and the next steps to take upon discovering that their identity has been compromised.

Investment Scams Targeted at Seniors

Financial exploitations targeting older Americans is a multi-billion dollar industry. This workshop provides a basic understanding of how scam artists work and informs seniors of what they can do to avoid tactics to defraud them of their hard-earned money.

Financial “Fresh Start” after Domestic Abuse

Oftentimes survivors of domestic abuse have no credit in their own name or their credit identity has been usurped by their abusers. Consequently, they must take steps to build or rebuild credit worthiness in order to become financially self sufficient. This workshop will educate attendees on basic money management skills.
